The Birth of a book club

About Us

When my first child was nine months old, I decided to stop parenting by scroll and finally read up on  what the experts had to say. On a library trip, I maxed out my card: 19 books for my baby (yes, I was that mum) and one for me. It was one I’d been recommended, and one I’d seen of forums and read about in comments — but even so, I renewed it five times, returned it unread, and didn’t finish it until more than two years later.

When I finally came to the end of the book I felt a huge sense of achievement as well as a deep sense of satisfaction having expanded my knowledge of parenting theory. I wanted that feeling for other mums too.

So I created The Mum Book Club: a space for mums to carve out time for themselves — to read, reflect, and connect.

Now a mum of two, I bring home fewer books and more intention. I’m more secure in what we need — and what I need too. The books I choose now often earn a permanent spot on the bookshelf. That’s what TMBC is about: making space to determine our own parenting philosophies,  making time for growth, and the nourishment of real conversations.

I’m not a parenting expert. I’m a mum who wanted something deeper than doomscrolling. I built TMBC to think deeply about parenting, identity, and how we show up together, with real books and open minds.

This isn’t a club for perfect mums or perfectly read mums. It’s for tired, thoughtful women ready to reconnect with themselves and scratch an intellectual itch that’s gone ignored for too long.

Every book we read is carefully chosen. Whether you finish it or not, you’re welcome. No pressure. No judgement.

Just space to start your first chapter — or your next one.
